Well, simple in the shape that is. Of cause I couldn't leave it plain. In fact, first came the embellishment, then the tank top.
I like to watch "Hart of Dixie". Judge me if you'd like, but I find it quite entertaining and I love the fashion. Zoes' edgy, rather sleek look and the vintagy, sweet style of the bells... it provides a lot of eye candy and inspiration.
Anyways, let's get to the point; Annabeth (one of the minor characters but lovely nonetheless) wore this dress in one of the recent episodes and while watching the episode, my weels were already turning how to copy the look.

I assumed then that she was wearing seperates, so I ended up making a top instead of a whole dress.
I used this pattern by Burda:
I used a white poly/viscose blend that I tea dyed for a cream color. The neckline is finished with black cotton bias tape. I stiched it to the right side first, then embroidered the triangular shapes and finally stiched the other side invisibly to the wrong side of the neckline.
I got the gems from a belly-dancing-supply-shop on ebay. Nail polish came to my rescue when I couldn't find all the right shapes in the right colors.
I roughly sketched the shape with a pencil and sewed the on from the middle to the sides.
Do you draw inspiration from TV shows? I started watching Charlies Angels (the original from the 70s) recently and feel quite inspired. Any Hart of Dixie fans out there?

Have a nice sunday, everybody!

Your top turned out really nice! I also watch Hart of Dixie even though I don't think much of some of the acting and storyline. I just can't stop watching lol because it's just too pretty and it's ridiculous = entertaining.
ReplyDeleteExactly. I like to sew while watching a show so it's perfect if it doesn't take much attention to follow the storyline.
DeleteOMG wonderful! I really like the embroidered trim you made-the beads are less my thing but they really go well with the trim so coolcoolcool. No idea about that tv show-this is the first time I've heard of it-will go look it up.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I didn't like the design of the embroidery on the original, that's why I changed it up. But now I also prefer it over the beading.
DeleteOh wow! That was a lot of work, but well worth it. I love the stitched trim around the neckline. Very cool!
