| I felt very put together, kind of like a librarian/ secretary (in the best possible way), so I decided to take the pics in a library. |
I've never made a knit dress before and the idea was very appealing to me: not having to worry that much about the fit because it stretches and having a slick silhouette while still keeping comfortable.
Well, fitting it wasn't that easy but sewing it worked like a charm. I used a Patrones pattern, I got last year in Madrid (2nd magazine, 1st pic, 1st row). I changed the neckline to a boat neck though I'm not completely sure about it. I like the outfit as a whole but without the cardigan it looks quite top heavy.
So I need your help: should I change the neckline? If so, which style would you prefer?
Also as you can see, there are some fitting issues in the back, it's a bit too wide but nothing major. The pattern is designed for a non stretchy fabric, so I had to take it in quite a bit. And it shows my lumps and bumps I'd like to conceal, even though I lined the skirt part. Next time I'm going to wear it with a slip, I hope that helps.
Anyways, overall I'm happy with the dress, it's super comfy and the fabric fortunately doesn't stretch out. It's a cotton jersey with a tiny blue and white woven design. The lace is a cotton lace I found at a fabric outlet, lucky score. First I planed to make a seperate under skirt and sew the lace to the lining but I was affraid that the under skirt might crawl up my legs, making the lace look uneven, so that didn't happen.

I'm actually that pleased with it, that I want to wear it to my cousin's wedding next weekend but I'm still undecisive about the styling. I somehow love the blue with the mustard tights but I'm really not sure about it. So here are a few options I'm considering and hope for your help once more.

So I think you've got your homework cut out for you, please leave me your input in the comments below.

Hey Katarina,
ReplyDeleteI'd vote for the mustard cardigan and mustard tights. But maybe you can also wear the skirt without tights, I think the mustard is so fall-ish and it's a summer wedding, so I'd prefer bare legs and a creamy cardigan.
yeah, I thought that, too. But I have many scars, discoloration, veins and usually a few bruises so I'm not that comfortable with bare legs. I also prefer the mustard over the burgundy. I'm just affraid that with a mustard cardi, it's a bit matchy-matchy.
DeleteVery pretty! I love anything with a lace addition though. And you've accessorised it beautifully :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melanie. Remembering your blue shift dress with the Chanel lace, I should have seen this coming ;-)
DeleteI love that lace edition too! I'm totally stealing that idea for my TNT knit sheath dress pattern. This looks very nice on you.
ReplyDeleteThe necklace is just perfect for it. I wouldn't change the neckline at all. The way the necklace sits on it is perfect. And I love that little touch of lace!
ReplyDeleteLove this! The lace really makes it. Looks great with the necklace.
ReplyDeleteLove this on you. The necklace sets it off. It has the sassy librarian look. Love it.
